Oxford Larder

We collaborated with owners Simon Carver and Stuart McKenzie of Collingwood institution South of Johnston (SOJO) to create this bustling little larder/cafe just a block away in a smart new development designed by Jackson Clements Burrows.

The feel had to complement the Larder's farm to the door philosophy so we introduced a mix of bluestone herringbone pavers, raw brass fittings and exposed pipe work, together with concrete troughs and suspended steel and timber shelving. These rustic elements contast with the smooth policrete flooring and generous chocolate travertine counters to give the Larder a strong, warm character that resonates with its curiously sourced produce and seasonally adjusted cafe menu. Given our design needed to prioritise preparation and service areas, a selection of small but comfortable seating (canvas, leather and timber for the couches and Milca tables and stools) allow more of us to experience what this wonderful little cafe has to offer.
